Well, over the Christmas break I definitely had a good time with my family and friends. I found it hard to find time to crochet. But I did manage to get a few items made. I'm learning as I go....for instance, I think a few of my first few items were a bit small. I use myself as a guide and when I finally tried them on my husband, they looked like they shrank in the dryer. Well, I'll make them bigger this time around. Hopefully a lot of really small people needed warmth recently. :)
I also received a package from an old high school friend, Myla Wunderlich. I really liked her back then and I can see she is just as wonderful now. Love you Myla!! Thanks!

The Big Drop (or something like that)
I made my first delivery of scarves and hats to SAMM today. I didn't want any grandstanding, so I just took them inside and drove off. No biggie. I wish I could have been delivering them more than just the few items I had made. I will work harder this next two weeks.
I've just received some beautiful blue yarn from my dear friend, Vonna Purtell, and one of my oldest friends, Linda Scheffler. Thanks to you both. And now, I have more work to do, so I'm outta here. Have a blessed day!

More updates
I received a generous package from Shirley Hines. Thanks!! And I finished a gorgeous scarf from Traci Underwood's yarn. I'll post the picture on Monday. It's a nice color. But today, I have to travel to Houston for my son's birthday party and so I don't have time to download pics. Traveling is always a great time for me to get lots of crocheting done. But today, we aren't leaving until after dark. Man, what a waste of some good time! I was also planning on making a drop-off to the shelter today, but had to spend the day packing for our trip and cleaning up doggy diarrhea. Ick. My poor old fart dog is a little sick. But amongst all this craziness, I did manage to whip out a crocheted hat today. Hooray!!

Well, here are the first few...
Donated by Katie Little (this looks better when on a head! )
Donated by John Martin
Donated by Scott Weinert (is it "ie" or "ei"? I forget, Scott....sorry)
John Martin
Sharron Burnett
Scott Wienert (I added a flower with some extra yarn I had....hey, there's no reason why some homeless gal shouldn't be fabulous too!)
Maryellen Greene
Sharron Burnett (this one looks much prettier in person....nice color)
I only made 10 items in 2 weeks, but I have been very busy with Christmas activities, Thanksgiving, the routine housework, caring for my kids, etc. So I will bump up production this week. Thanks for the donations. And don't forget to spread the word. The SAMM shelter has currently has 400 beds and they were ALL full of cold and hungry people. 400!! So I won't stop crocheting! Keep it coming!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
I received a very generous amount of yarn over the Thanksgiving holiday. How appropriate! I'm thankful to the following people who gave:
Katie Little
Kim Little
Scott Wienert
Becky Little
Traci Underwood
I can't help but wonder if I bit off more than I can chew! But I assure you I am hard at work and will be sure to pump out more items this week. The kids are back in school and I have a little more time to work.
I'll post pics of the finished product later today, but now I need to go eat some breakfast. Happy Monday!

One down!
One scarf done, 999,999 to go! Depending on how diligently I work, I think I can get one scarf set done in 2 days. Sooner if I neglect my family, and longer if I actually clean the house and make dinner. So we'll see what I can get done in the next month. I'm hoping to drop off a load of items to SAMM in about 2 weeks. I'm also planning on keeping a counter, to let you keep track of how many items I make, over time. I just need to figure out how to put one on my website! I'm a bit of a computer boob, so that could take a while! Anyway, thanks for the donations and please keep it up and spread the word. So far it's going well!

My first bundle of yarn...hooray!!
I've already received a large amount of yarn, over the weekend, thanks to the following people:
Maryellen Greene
Sharron Burnett
Julio Gonzalez
I already have my work cut out for me, but trust me, I can handle more. So keep spreading the word. I hope to keep this project going, even when the cold weather passes. I can accumulate a large amount of scarves and hats and be ready for next winter. So please don't forget that I will be working all year long.
And remember to join me as a follower of this blog for updates. I will post pictures of completed scarves as I finish them. And now I'm off to see how much I can get done today. I have at least 10 scarves to make and I have home obligations too! (ugh!)

TIPS for buying the yarn
As I've mentioned, it really doesn't matter what kind of yarn you buy. It can be thick, thin, cheap, ugly. I can work with whatever you get. I really don't think the homeless will care if it's lime green! You can find yarn at any craft store (Michael's, Hobby Lobby). If you go to the Hobby Lobby website, you can print off a coupon for 40% off any single item at regular price. This would make the average ball of yarn about $3.40.

You can also order yarn and have it sent to me.
My address is: 1219 Ganton Lane, San Antonio, Texas 78260
Here are some places to buy yarn online:
http://www.knitting-warehouse.com/index.html
http://www.joann.com/
http://cache.lionbrand.com/ (this is also the website I use to get a lot of free patterns)
I know it takes some time, but I hope you will help me keep San Antonio warm this winter.

Day one of my new adventure.
SAMMinistries is an interfaith ministry whose mission is to help the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless attain self-sufficiency by offering, with dignity and compassion, shelter, housing, and services. Their story is an amazing one and if you'd like to read their story, simply click of the link (http://www.samm.org/) . I chose this particular group to donate my items to because they have a solid reputation and do wonderful things for the community. As I finish my products, I will post them for you to see. Because it's already getting cold here, in San Antonio, I have to get working....fast! So please come back to see how much I can get done in the next few days. I intend to make my first delivery to the ministries after the Thanksgiving holidays.
